~ Duncannon 2006
The Duncannon event, which took place on June 3rd to 5th 2006.
Saw for the first time a group of Roman re-enactors drawn from LEG VIII AVG BRITANNIA and a newly formed (6months) group from Cork, LEGVIII AVG HIBERNIA.
A lively and interesting display of Roman Military Formations and indeed Marching Drill was performed by the combined units, under the command of the Optio of Leg VIII AVG Britannia (Nick Backhouse).
Other components of the displays included a Roman Patrol encampment and civilian household of the late 1st and early 2nd centaury.
There was also a Roman religious ceremony, which the Roman troops regularly performed and participated in Prior to Battle.
The event was completed by the Roman Senator CASPERIOUS, giving a speech in Latin welcoming the visitors to the island of HIBERNIA and offering a Libation to JUPITER. This was then followed up by the giving of the LEGIONARY OATH “ by the OPTIO and followed by the response of the troops “same for me”.
All had a fabulous we-end, and we all hope to have an even better display and event in 2007.
